What is KidCast?
Well, it’s a book…and it’s a podcast…and it’s a community.
KidCast started off during the spring of 2005 as a professional development experiment that was focused on getting teachers and students started with podcasting. This experiement quickly evolved into a writing project that soon produced KidCast: Podcasting in the Classroom (available from FTC Publishing). As the book became available we began to produce a companion podcast to support the teachers who were working through the issues and ideas articulated in the book.
2006 and 2007 were great years for us in the news! We have been featured in articles in Education Week, The New York Times, USA Today and other publications who have shared our ideas and enthusiasm about podcasting in education.
Now our listenership has swelled thanks to the support and recognition we have received from so many people. We are evolving now into a community of podcasters who are contributing innovative models and solutions so that together we can help educators and learners harness the power of this exciting new medium.
Web 2.0!
No longer are we just consumers of information, we are creators, producers, developers, and collaborators. The Internet has found its second act, and boy, is it exciting.
Thousands of educators are exploring the possibilities of podcasting in their classrooms and we’re here to help! We have podcasting project ideas, management tips, collaborative projects, contests, and lots of resources to help you move into the podophere for teaching, learning and building community.
I invite you to tune into my podcast, Kidcast, Podcasting in the Classroom to learn more about how this new medium is helping to shape young learners into global communicators.
