In my current role, I work with a LOT of teachers and many are exploring how podcasts fit into their curriculum. I am most interested in getting students and teachers to create their own podcast episodes as products of their learning. However, there is so much wonderful content out there to use as supplementary curriculum material that I always spend some time working with teachers on searching out and subscribing to shows that might benefit their students.
Getting quality content that meshes well with your curriculum is only half that battle. In this episode we’ll talk about active engagement while listening to or watching podcasts. Special thanks to Stef Paramoure of Canyon Middle School in New Braunfels, TX for her inspiration for this topic!

Dan – attended your WEMTA session this past weekend. Listened to this podcast on the way to school this morning and you offer up some really great ideas. I plan to use this with a group of teachers tomorrow during a brainstorm session for how we can use podcasts in the classroom. Really inspiring!
Thanks for the chat after the session, Chad…and for checking out the shows. I’m looking forward to seeing some examples from your school. It sounded like you have some good momentum happening.
I agree totally with your ideas for becoming actively engaged when listening to podcasts. I have notebooks full of notes from your Kidcasts- writing it down secures it in my memory bank- if I can find the notebook. I am 56 years young and have taught in Australia for 33 years. Your Kidcasts and books are my professional development lifeline. You continually challenge my thinking about podcasting. Thanks
I agree with providing oppontuinites for comments and discussion using podcasts. As I create a podcast for instruction, I provide a time during the listening to write and discuss. A blog or wiki for classroom discussion could also be used.
